5x7 inch, Oil Pastel on oil pastel paper (brand : Sennelier). Framed in a 3D wooden shadow box—protecting the piece without contact.
I grabbed my oil pastels and a small sheet of paper before visiting a church friend whose yard has a lovely pond and many trees. Moved by the light there, I made a miniature study of the Light of the World—Jesus, standing close with a merciful, inviting gaze. Working in miniature, I simplified every mark and used layered pastels so his white robe and purple mantle pop against the sunlit, leafy background.
Symbolism
Light — the central motif; it is both guide and revelation, the visual cue that draws the eye toward the face and toward attention itself.
White robe — purity and openness; a visual simplicity that contrasts with the textured surroundings.
Purple outer garment — dignity, compassion, and the weight of sacrificial love.
Green and warm background tones — the natural world as witness; light filtering through leaves becomes a metaphor for grace entering ordinary life.Cross at the edge — an anchor and a compass; placed near the margin to remind the viewer that the story extends beyond the frame.
